Apples (semi-dwarf)
We've chosen varieties offered here based on production performance and on old-time flavor; the kind of taste you remember when you ate an apple off grandpa's tree. You'll be pleased with the vigor and healthy root stock of Shumway's apple trees. All are semi-dwarf trees that grow to only 50% to 60% the size of standard apple trees. They average mature heights of 12 to 15 feet, and normally bear 3 to 5 years after planting. These trees average yearly production is 8 to 12 bushels of apples. They are very hardy, most are disease resistant and all are widely adapted. Apples require cross pollination by another apple variety. Nearby flowering crab apples work fine as pollinators.
